  What is Community Power?

Community Power is a local initiative of Darebin, Whitehorse and Moreland City Councils and the Moreland Energy Foundation, which aims to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the uptake of GreenPower from new renewable generation sources such as wind and solar. Unlike standard energy produced from fossil fuels like coal, oil or gas, GreenPower sources do not produce greenhouse gas emissions.

Our Green Energy Provider

For the second consecutive year, Community Power has chosen Origin, Australia's number one green energy provider, as our preferred partner. In fact, Origin’s 100% Wind energy product was rated as one of the best in Australia for the third time in a row in 2007 by Green Electricity Watch, a group of three leading environmental organisations.

In 2007, Community Power went through a competitive process open to all energy retailers licensed to sell electricity in Victoria. After considering their GreenPower offers, we selected Origin as our new partner to offer Government accredited GreenPower to our residents. Origin has more than 250,000 green energy customers – the largest in Australia.

New Community Power Energy Plans

The Community Power program has negotiated special rebates with Origin for Darebin, Moreland and Whitehorse residents. Join the thousands of households buying Government Accredited GreenPower, one of the simplest ways you can significantly reduce the level of your household’s greenhouse emissions.

By choosing GreenPower for 3 years, you will be eligible for rebates of up to $300 on your electricity bills - minimising the cost of reducing your home’s impact on our environment.

And with 25%, 50% and 100% GreenPower options available, there’s one to suit your budget.

When you choose a Community Power Energy Plan, electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar is supplied into the electricity grid to match your electricity consumption.

Government accredited GreenPower guarantees that the green electricity you are purchasing is independently audited - supporting growth in Australia’s new renewable energy industry and reducing your household’s greenhouse gas emissions.

When you sign up to an Origin GreenPower product through Community Power you join with other households to take action locally, and are eligible to receive Community Power's quarterly newsletter and access to our energy management programs.

Plus, with Origin Green Gas, Origin can offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by your natural gas consumption.
