History
of Community Power
The concept for Community Power was originally raised with
Darebin City Council by the Westgarth Action Group, in
response to the deregulation of the Victorian electricity
market in 2002. After consultation with the local community,
it was evident that Darebin residents supported Council’s
involvement in the project, expressing their strong interest
in joining the program.
As a result, Community Power was established, making it easier
for residents to reduce the impact of their greenhouse gas emissions by
switching to accredited GreenPower. The Community Power
Program has since expanded to include the Cities of Whitehorse and Moreland
represented by the Moreland Energy Foundation.
